Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that swept the planet Earth in 2020 through to 2021, all live events were canceled. However, creative ingenutity prevailed and new online content was produced to help the members of the band be supported. This section will be a listing of all the band members' and closely associated guest members' social media since things can change daily or weekly.
Although there was a 2020 album release for The Fearless Flyers with the Delta Force sax trio, Vulfpeck's release of "The Joy of Music, the Job of Real Estate" only produced 5 new tracks, 4 older songs that were not released on previous EPs or full albums, and track 10 was auctioned on eBay, with the group Earthquake Lights' Moody Blues-style song "Off and Away" getting the winning spot. While it has not been mentioned publicly, fans have taken into consideration that the original plans for all songs to be new recordings had to be amended due to the pandemic, making it difficult for the band members to come together and record in the typical Vulfpeck fashion.
While Jack Stratton has done a New Year's Day livestream commentary of the Madison Square Garden Concert film on January 1, 2020, and a few more tutorials on some older songs, not much new content has been released during the "Wilderness Years" of the pandemic outside of new videos (and a couple updates of older ones) for the 2020 album. However, the other bandmates have taken the baton and ran with it.
Theo Katzman and Joey Dosik continue to work more on other people's projects, whereas Woody Goss has been involved in several projects that have come out over the course 2020 into 2021, such as the "Woody and Jeremy" albums. Joe Dart continues to do session bass work, but has also collaborated on the second The Olllam album, released in 2021. The most active, though, has been Cory Wong. To list the amount of new music, albums, and projects that Cory has done during this wilderness period deserves a Grammy Award in of itself (and he is also co-Grammy nominated with Jon Batiste on their album "Meditations")!
Until pandemic gets under control, we hope the day comes when VULPECK can come back together and make great, new music again and can play live to spread the joy of funk and soul like they have for 10 years.
